Short History of Convertibles

The name “convertible” dates back to the eighteenth century, before the first cars, and refers to a horse car, sportier and lighter than the other horse cars.

The construction of convertibles started to rise by the end of the Second World War. At the time, the people wanted to have fun again by letting their hair move with the wind. In the years following the war, the convertibles are designed very simply, so you can easily use them for racing.

Then, the oil crisis and the beginning of stricter safety standards undermine the popularity of convertibles until the 1990s.

It is in these years that convertibles truly become popular. Since then, automakers produce at least one convertible model. There is a convertible for all tastes and all budgets!
